It’s just something you don’t see in concert band pieces. At 6:18 there’s this build, all the way to 7:01. Listen to it all the way through. In most concert band pieces, you build to a major drop off in dynamic (unless it’s the end of the piece), or you build to a stopping point in new pieces like this. But no.
This piece builds, and picks up *exactly* where it left off in terms of pace, dynamic, the whole bit. That’s what makes it so good.
While admittedly bias, I listen to this rendition last night performed by the Las Vegas Academy’s Wind Ensemble, their production was off the charts. Performed at the Smith Center their production was incredible. I mentioned to my wife, we’ll probably never hear what we just experienced ever again…
Great! … I like also the performance of the Quartet on one snare, too 😉
Saw the pacific symphony orchestra perform it

Wind sounds like drum and bass
13:59 best part tbh
Love the percussion quartet, the color of the trombone glissandos and surprise epic French horn parts hitting top range at the end!
Love this band!
What a enjoyable piece to listen to and well played. Also shout out to the horns for the random lick at the end of the piece💯💯💯
Viet Cuong is quickly becoming one of my favorite contemporary composers.
👀
Very nice sounding party of four gentlemen without ladies … Well, fortunately there are some in the orchestra!
This is beyond crazy! superb!
Why have I just found about it? This is amazing!
Can this be purchased?
What an interesting composition!
0:13 Hydro
4:44 Wind
10:35 Solar
Well that was just wonderful.
This was an an awesome piece! Love the vibe and performance; this is an excellent example of a productive direction for the modern wind band!
This piece is a Banger! Fantastic job!
I absolutely adore this piece
viet cuong writes some insanely creative percussion parts
rad
The third part is really like the soundtrack from a movie about an exotic planet adventure
Well played. Excited to start breaking into this music. Cheers to memorizing the last movement.
