The Client Sent My Sculpture Back… DESTROYED

The Client Sent My Sculpture Back… DESTROYED

A wild story of how a previously carved sculpture ended up infested with termites and shattered into pieces. I also carve a life size bear using acrylic. What do you want to see me carve next!? #woodworking #carving #sculpture

  1. Burl is so brittle I make veneer with them at work. Almost like cork at times. Probably should of used something less brittle?

  2. That was a beautiful bear. I don’t know what I would’ve done in that situation but I suppose there’s enough doubt that the termites had been in there as you carved it, so you did the right thing. Great job! What was the client’s reaction?

  3. Could you have baked or froze the sculpture for a week or 2? Found this info.

Termites typically die when exposed to temperatures below 25°F (around -4°C) for extended periods, as they are cold-blooded creatures and cannot survive extreme cold; most termite species thrive in temperatures between 75°F and 95°F (24°C and 35°C).
Key points about termite temperature tolerance:
    Ideal range: 75°F – 95°F
    Fatal temperature: Below 25°F
How they cope with cold: Subterranean termites move deeper underground to access warmer soil when temperatures drop.

  4. Should have destroyed that and started fresh. As a client I would not want it back! It is not worth your reputation and possibly spreading to other items in your workshop, this should have been handled like Ebola

  5. OMG! This is the first video I’ve seen of yours. Fantastic work! I was utterly amazed at the termites that lived after so many gassings! Shocking, really. I’ve subscribed, so will be watching more!

  6. I feel such anger seeing what your customer and the transporter have done… Hope you will find the delivery man and make him pay!

  7. Were the termites always there or does the client live in a very termite friendly environment? It’s just odd that it took you a lot of work hours to complete without you noticing it had termites?

  8. All of the people in the comments telling you to burn the sculpture are clearly not thinking about the potentially deadly consequences of burning resin.

  9. The client is at fault for letting termites come inside their house to start eating this. Then they ship it back with no padding. I would be pissed at them.

  10. Jesus, how do you get termites into a statue that’s sitting somwhere on a desk or something? They would have to be in the house already. Or was it outside?

  11. Beautiful sculpture.

Client should have packaged the bear better.

Who tf delivers with an eyeglass nose “disguise” unless he was really that fugly.

That was a lot of work to get the bear back into shape. I hope its next owner understands the attention you lavished on that piece.

I’m interested to know where you sourced the wood.

  12. In this situation, I would more than likely assume the customer wasn’t informed about the infestation and bought it with the assumption that it was safe. It’s best to be fully open with the client with stuff like this to maintain a safe business practice.

  13. The cliant has a termite problem ✅

You should protect your investment amd coat a layer of reson over the wood as to protect the full peace ✅

This wil prevent u from going through this look…
Good video but not a good look✅

Is will give future cliants a hesitation in wanting your work ✅

Can u make a saw fish that comes pieces like a fish puzzle of wood organs and bones ✅

  14. Just a tip if u don’t want any type of wood eaters in your projects maybe consider putting a very thin layer of epoxy over the wood:)

  15. The shipping company is at fault. They always are unless they prove otherwise. Then is you because of the termites. Then the buyer for sending it back.

  16. What happened with the bear sculpture? Did you send it back to the client or resale it? Curious to know what you did with it.

  17. Your skill is incredible but nothing would ever interest me in having that sculpture in my home. Should have burned and made client a new one.

  18. Oh, the delivery driver should not be allowed to ever deliver anything! Such disregard for other people’s property.

  19. You should be upset with the client for shipping a fucking termite infestation to your house is who you should be mad at.

  20. Did you ever see the movie "The Bear" (1988)? Synopsis: "An orphan bear cub hooks up with an adult male as they try to dodge human hunters." The cinematography in the movie is incredible! I have no idea how they captured the bears doing all they did. I’ve seen it a few times. The story and the situations the bears get into will have you on the edge of your seat. I highly recommend it.

  21. just knowing how bad termites can be, i believe i would of made a big fire in the back yard and just chucked it in and cut my losses
